Why Use DigiLocker for DL & RC?

Legally Equivalent to Originals

Under Rule 139 of the CMVR, 1989, documents on DigiLocker are fully accepted by Traffic Police, RTOs, and Courts — no physical copy needed.

Digitally Signed by Govt

Every document on DigiLocker carries a digital signature from the issuing authority (RTO/MoRTH). Tamper-proof and permanently verifiable via QR code.

Always On Your Phone

Your DL and RC are stored securely in your DigiLocker account. Access them anytime on Android, iOS, or the DigiLocker web portal — even offline (cached).

One Account, All Documents

Beyond DL & RC, store your Aadhaar, PAN, Class 10/12 Marksheets, Insurance, and more — issued directly from government departments.

How to Get Your Driving Licence on DigiLocker

Follow these steps on the DigiLocker mobile app or the official website (digilocker.gov.in).

Step 1

Download & Sign Up

Step 2

Go to "Issued Documents"

After logging in, tap the "Issued Documents" section on the home dashboard. This is where all government-issued certified documents are fetched.

Step 3

In the search bar, type "Driving Licence" or "Sarathi". Select the option under Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

Step 4

Enter Your DL Details

Step 5

Your digitally signed DL will appear instantly. You can view, share via link, or download a PDF. It is permanently linked to your DigiLocker account.

How to Download Vehicle RC on DigiLocker

Your vehicle's Registration Certificate is issued by the Vahan (MoRTH) database. Here's how to fetch it on DigiLocker.

Step 1

Sign In to DigiLocker

Open the DigiLocker app or visit digilocker.gov.in. Sign in using your mobile number / Aadhaar OTP or your username and password.

Step 2

Tap "Issued Documents"

Navigate to the "Issued Documents" tab on the home screen. This section shows all documents that government departments have issued in your name.

Step 3

Search "Registration Certificate"

Search for "Registration Certificate" or "Vahan". Select it under Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. You can link multiple vehicles.

Step 4

Enter Vehicle Registration Number

Input your vehicle registration number exactly as it appears on your RC (e.g., DL01AB1234). Click "Get Document". Ensure the format matches — no spaces, correct state code.

Step 5

RC Fetched & Stored

Your digitally signed RC is instantly fetched from the Vahan national registry and saved in your DigiLocker. Share it or show it on screen during police checks.

Legal Validity: CMVR Rule 139 + IT Act, 2000

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. DigiLocker documents are legally valid and accepted across India under Rule 139 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (CMVR) and Section 4 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Traffic police and RTOs must accept them as equivalent to the original physical documents.
Open the DigiLocker app or visit digilocker.gov.in. Sign in or create a new account using your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Your Aadhaar is verified via OTP. Once signed in, navigate to "Issued Documents" → Search "Driving Licence" → Enter your DL number and DOB to fetch the digitally signed document.
Your RC may not appear due to a mismatch in the vehicle registration number format, an incomplete record in the central Vahan database, or a delay in RTO data sync (which can take 7–14 business days for new registrations). Ensure you enter the registration number in the exact format shown on the physical RC (e.g., MH02AB1234).
Yes. The DigiLocker RC is a legally valid, digitally signed document issued by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH). It is accepted by insurance companies, banks, and RTOs as equivalent to the physical RC booklet.
mParivahan is a dedicated transport app by NIC/MoRTH that stores a soft-copy (virtual) of your DL and RC using your data from the Vahan/Sarathi database — valid under Rule 139. DigiLocker stores the official digitally signed document issued directly by the issuing authority (RTO/Sarathi), which carries a higher level of legal authenticity as a certified digital copy.
Newly issued Driving Licences typically appear on DigiLocker within 7 to 14 working days after the licence is printed and dispatched by the RTO. The data must first sync from the Sarathi portal to the DigiLocker national document repository.
